When I saw this super unique piece on it was those handles that really drew me in. They are so fun! The ad said a structural repair was needed (a broken drawer slide) but I knew I wanted to attempt it.
Hereβs how I started on this chest of drawers:
πͺ removed the handles & bottom frame
π¦Ί put on my safety boots and the rest of my sanding safety gear
ποΈ started by sanding with my random orbit sander
πͺ΅ filled a couple of chips in the veneer along the bottom edge using walnut wood filler
π€πΌ hand sanded the tight corners
π§Ό used TSP Alternative to clean the non-wood surfaces
πͺ removed the broken drawer slide
πͺ used my multi-tool to trim off the excess on the sides of a replacement
πͺ΅ before screwing in the slide, applied wood glue to the back end with their glue applicator
πΌ applied tape to frame the paint accent
βοΈ chose Dark Roast
ποΈ applied using a flat brush
2οΈβ£ only needed to apply 2 coats
ποΈ with my 3x4 SurfPrep electric ray sander removed the finish on the handles
π Polyx-Oil Tints in Honey was the perfect choice
ποΈ applied to the edges using a flat brush; for the flat surfaces, I used a microfibre roller
ποΈ to ensure a super smooth surface, lightly sanded with a 400 grit foam pad between all coats
π¨ did a few touch-ups using Coconix Furniture Repair Paint
3οΈβ£ for the third and final coat, buffed in the oil Polyx-Oil Clear in matte) using an Osmo Superpad
π΄π» finished all the surfaces with Grandpa Ernieβs sanding method
πͺ reassembled the bottom frame & handles
There was a lot of problem solving with this piece and Iβm really happy I was able to figure out solutions. Princeville is one of my favourite brands to refinish because of the most gorgeous walnut wood that I get to uncover and expose. Itβs always such an honour for me β¨
