One of the things that makes ice fishing so available and accessible to everyone is that it can be enjoyed with just some very basic, simple, and inexpensive equipment. With a hand auger, a short jigging rod, a couple lures, and some bait, new anglers can be well on their way to enjoying a day on Vermont's frozen lakes and ponds, with the chance of catching a tasty meal of panfish! In this video, department fisheries biologist Lee Simard spends a day on Monkton Pond, Vermont, demonstrating the gear and techniques that can be used for a successful day ice fishing.
