What Most Gardeners Get Wrong About Daffodils (Expert Tips)

If you love daffodils but find they don’t always come back or flower as well as you’d hoped, you’re not alone. Growing daffodils is easy, but some of the advice you'll find is either outdated, confusing or simply wrong.

So I went to the experts. I spoke to Johnny Walkers of Taylors Bulbs, who has spent his life growing daffodils and has won 29 RHS Gold Medals for them, and to Neil Miller, head gardener at Hever Castle, one of the most spectacular daffodil gardens in England.

Between them, they’ve seen what succeeds — and what goes wrong — in real gardens. And they’ve helped bust some of the most common myths about growing daffodils, from what to do after flowering to why bulbs sometimes stop blooming.

They've also created the new Hever Castle daffodil - a large yellow trumpet daffodil, which flowers mid-season.

In this video, you’ll find out what actually makes daffodils come back year after year — and the simple changes that can make all the difference in your own garden.
