Struggling with your slice? 👇

Tired of watching your golf ball drift out of bounds?

Let’s fix that slice once and for all.

One of the most common mistakes golfers make is leaving the clubface too open relative to the swing path. This leads to the dreaded slice that sends your ball off-course and costs you strokes. But don't worry—today, I’m sharing the exact fix for this problem.

First, let's understand why your slice happens. When your clubface is too open during the downswing, it creates an exaggerated curve, usually to the right (if you're a right-handed golfer). This is caused by the clubface not being properly aligned with your path, and that’s where we need to make a simple adjustment.

Here’s how you can fix it:

Step 1: Close the Clubface Relative to Your Path
On the downswing, focus on twisting the clubface slightly more closed. Imagine you're turning the shaft along its axis. This simple twist allows the club to rotate properly and helps square up the face at impact.

Step 2: Neutralize the Sweet Spot
Instead of swinging with an outside-in path, try to neutralize the sweet spot of your club. Picture the sweet spot tracing a more neutral path that matches the arc of your swing. This will give you better contact and reduce side spin, which leads to a straighter shot.

Step 3: Focus on a Solid Release
As you follow through, make sure the leading edge of your club releases properly. A good release is key to maintaining control of the ball’s flight. Visualize the club exiting the swing with the leading edge pointing down the target line. This ensures you're closing the face naturally and reducing that slice.

These adjustments may seem minor, but they can make all the difference in your game. Golf is all about consistency and precision, and by practicing these steps, you’ll see a dramatic improvement in keeping your shots straight.

Here’s a quick drill to help you practice:

The “Clubface Twist Drill”:
Take your normal stance and grip, but instead of focusing on your backswing, pay attention to how the clubface moves during your downswing. On each practice swing, exaggerate the twisting motion to get a feel for closing the clubface earlier. After a few practice swings, start hitting balls with this technique, focusing on keeping the face closed through impact. You should see a noticeable reduction in your slice after a few tries.

Why does this work?

It’s all about timing and control. When you learn to control the clubface relative to your swing path, you eliminate the factors that cause a slice. Think about it this way: professional golfers consistently square the clubface at impact, which is why they hit those laser-straight drives. This drill helps you develop that same consistency.

Not sure if this will work for you? I help thousands of golfers every year, and this simple adjustment works for all levels of play—from beginners to seasoned pros.

The key is to practice these steps until they become second nature. Don’t just do this once or twice. Make it part of your routine, and you'll be amazed at how quickly you start hitting straighter, more accurate shots.

And remember—golf isn’t just about one fix. It’s about continually improving all aspects of your game. By fixing your slice, you’re gaining confidence in your long game, which will lower your scores and make the game more enjoyable.

Ask yourself: How much would it improve your game if you could stop slicing the ball? Imagine walking up to the tee box knowing you’ll hit a straight, solid drive every time. That’s the goal. And with the right adjustments, it’s absolutely achievable.

So, take these tips to the course or your practice range, and let me know how they work for you in the comments. I’m confident this will help you stop slicing and start playing more consistently.

Bonus Tip: Mastering Your Timing
One of the most overlooked aspects of golf is timing. As you work on closing your clubface, also pay attention to when your body rotates through the swing. If your body is ahead of the club, even a slightly open face can lead to a slice. Practice syncing your body rotation with your clubface closing, and you'll see even better results.

I can't stress this enough—practice makes perfect. Give yourself time to get used to these adjustments, and over time, you'll develop a more natural, slice-free swing.
