😻 Easy Knitting Pattern for Beginners | Learn to Knit 😻

In today's video we will look at how to make this easy knitting pattern designed for beginners. It is helpful when learning to knit, to use patterns like this one or in stitch dictionaries. It will help you to make the leap to working with written patterns and to better understand translating those written instructions into a piece of knitted fabric.

I remember when I started in knitting, and ordered my first beginner pattern book. I could not follow any of it, and it was so discouraging. For some people it can be really hard to take those written instructions and make them into the fabric. The key is to start with something that only has a few row repeats AND uses simple stitches. The most complicated thing in this pattern is the k2tog and yo, and those are pretty basic. If you need instruction on the stitches used in this tutorial, I will link them below.

This video is designed to be a complete lesson, and so it's longer than the usual 2 minute stitch tutorial. I created this video as though I had a student sitting with me, and we are picking this up to knit together for the first time. I also left in a couple of mistakes I had made on purpose. This is to show you what the mistakes will look like in a piece of fabric so you actually know if you made them. And to show you that we all make mistakes! My biggest piece of advice on this, is to do your knitting in a well lit environment and don't knit late at night or when you're tired. You will regret late night knitting in the morning as evidenced in this sample.

This pattern is from the Stitch Dictionary called The Complete Photo Guide to Knitting and is written by Margaret Hubert. I have permission from the publisher to show you how to knit some of Margaret's samples, though many of them can be found in just about any stitch dictionary. I like this book because it's very clear in terms of photos and instructions. I recommend it, and here is a link if you would like to purchase your own. Margaret has been a knitting educator for 20+ years, and I think it's good practice to promote each other and to provide support by actually purchasing books and patterns from designers.
