At a time when most racing classes were dominated by rear-wheel-drive buggies or emerging four-wheel-drive platforms, the Maxxum FF introduced a completely different approach. With the motor and drivetrain mounted in the front, the car delivered a unique traction advantage that didn't fit neatly into existing racing classes. Because of this, many racers considered it controversial and difficult to classify in organized competition.
