Charleston Home Showcase Pro: Creating a Historic Garden
Hey y'all, I'm Linda Greenberg, owner of Linda Greenberg Landscape Design, and welcome to the Charleston Home Showcase Pro. Today, we're at the beautiful BM Blossom Bed and Breakfast in downtown Charleston, and I'm excited to share some of my favorite gardening tips with you.

Creating a Historic Garden
As a landscape designer, I understand the importance of creating a garden that's not only beautiful but also historic and charming. In this case, we had to create a garden that would wow the guests who come to stay at the bed and breakfast. We started by creating a meandering pathway through a variety of colors, textures, and forms that make this garden unique and beautiful.

Arrival Sequence
The garden begins at the beginning of the home, which is the arrival sequence. You want to make it very entertaining and beautiful, and it's typically a little more formal in the front elevation as it beckons you to the front door. In this particular situation, we added some verticality to the front of the sidewalk to accentuate the height of the house.

Adding Reflectivity
One of my favorite gardening tips is to add reflectivity to a garden, especially when you're looking at a boring wall next to you. In this case, we connected the spaces by adding some wonderful oversized mirrors to add some reflectivity. It opens the space and makes you feel like you want to come out and enjoy it with a glass of tea or something really good.

Adding Interest
In front of the mirrors, we added some oversized cobalt blue urns, which happen to be the client's favorite color. We filled it with an array of irises for a pop of color. As you walk through this garden and to be seen from the interior of the house, most gardens have a little bit of chaos and a little form, but at the end of the day, it's your garden, so make it yours. Make it a special place for you to enjoy year-round.

Gardening Tips
Here are some gardening tips that I hope will help you and your garden create an amazing space for you to enjoy year-round:

Add reflectivity to your garden to make it more interesting and beautiful.
Use oversized mirrors to connect the spaces and make the garden feel larger.

Add a pop of color with oversized urns and fill them with flowers or greenery.

Make your garden a special place for you to enjoy year-round by adding unique and interesting elements.
